Action taken against erring airlines, employees by DGCA

"There have been instances of violation of norms or CAR by various airlines. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken administrative action relating to enforcement provisions during the last three years and the current year," Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.

He said 13 enforcement actions -- in form of suspension or cancellation of licence, certificates or permits, oral counselling, warnings and debarment etc -- have been taken against airlines from 2009 to July 31 this year.

"And 283 action have also been taken against personnel employed with the airlines which include pilots, engineers, cabin crew and others," Singh said.

Of these 13, two each were against Jagson Airlines, JetLite and now defunct MDLR airlines while one each was against Air India, Kingfisher Airlines, Go Airlines, Jet Airways, SpiceJet, IndiGo and now defunct Paramount Airways.

Of the 283 actions against airline personnel, 56 were taken in 2009, 59 in 2010, 62 in 2011 and 106 till 31 July this year.

Most of the cases, 81, were against the employees of Air India and its subsidiaries followed by Jet Airways and JetLite combine with 69, 38 against IndiGo, 35 against Kingfisher, 25 against SpiceJet, six against Go Air, 10 against now-defunct Paramount and four against Blue Dart, the Minister said.
