The Afghan, identified as Akhtar Hussain, had come here nine months ago on a three-month tourist visa but stayed on even after the expiry of the visa, Superintendent of Police Pradip Ranjan Kar said.
Hussain during his stay here also married a local woman and was living with her in a rented house in Gogamukh area of the district.
He was arrested from the rented house and further investigations were on, Kar said.
