After brief respite, temperatures soar again

National capital Delhi recorded an increase in temperature with mercury rising above normal.

The maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 40.6 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal and up from yesterday's 39.3 deg. The minimum was at 29.1 degree Celsius, one degree above normal and up from yesterday's 27 degrees.

In Punjab and Haryana, hot weather conditions continued to prevail with maximum temperature hovering around 40 degree Celsius at most of places in the region today.

Amritsar and Ludhiana recorded maximum temperature of 40.6 deg C and 41 deg C, while Patiala had a high of 40.7 deg C.

In Haryana, Ambala recorded maximum of 40.2 deg C while Hisar, Karnal, Rohtak and Narnaul had a high of 41.7 deg C, 40 deg C, 41.5 deg C and 41.5 deg C respectively.

Chandigarh had a maximum of 39.1 deg C, Met office said here today.

Met in its forecast said dry weather will prevail in Punjab and Haryana

Rajasthan also continued to reel under heat wave with Dholpur recording a maximum of 44 deg C.

Bikaner was recorded at 42.5 deg C while Churu, Sriganganagar and Barmer recorded 42.3, 42.2 and 41.5 deg C respectively.

Temperature at other places was recorded between 38.3 deg C and 40 deg C, according to Met department here.

Light to moderate rainfall occurred at isolated places in the state in the last 24 hours.

Thunder storm may occur at isolated areas in the state during next 24 hours.

Heat wave conditions prevailed in coastal Andhra Pradesh and also some parts of Gangtok, West Bengal and of north coastal Tamil Nadu.

Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 45 degree Celsius was recorded at Rentachintala (coastal Andhra Pradesh).
