Reddy directed ADGP Goutam Sawang to conduct the inquiry and submit a comprehensive report after meeting a delegation of the aggrieved family members of APSP constables.

The wives and children of the constables yesterday staged a dharna and also held rasta rokos in front of 8th Battalion of APSP at Kondapur in neighbouring Rangareddy district, at 3rd Battalion of APSP at Chintalvalsa in Vizianagaram district and 13th Battalion at Gudipet in Adilabad district.

Among the grievances raised by the protesters was that

The constables posted in other districts were being deprived of leave and alleged "high-handedness" of their higher-ups.

The DGP assured the delegations of looking into their grievances, a release from the DGP office said.

Reddy also directed the APSP officials to organise monthly "family gatherings" for the constables.

Though the top cop seems to have taken a lenient view of the protests, he expressed displeasure over the agitators taking law into their hands and warned the constables of disciplinary action if they instigate their family members to take law into their hands in future.

There are 15 Battalion centres across the state whose services are used for maintaining law and order whenever situation warrants.

Reddy told the delegation that "welfare" of police personnel was "crucial" for their commitment towards the organisation.

After the meeting, the DGP and other delegates paid a tribute to APSP constable Phani Kumar who died in East Godavari district while discharging his duty recently.
