In view of rising incidents of crime against women, the district administration has made it mandatory for autorickshaw drivers to inform the police if solitary woman happen to commute in their vehicles at night.
The decision was taken at a joint meeting of police, auto drivers association and transport department officials here, official sources said.
As per directives issued by the administration, the autorickshaw drivers/operators will have to inform the city control room if their vehicles are hired by woman without a companion at night, they said.
Measures like these had the potential to reduce the number of offences against women, officials claimed.
