CBI was today given time till January 16 by a local court to file evidences in the infamous Katra Sadatganj case in which bodies of two teenage cousins were found hanging from a tree, in an alleged case of gangrape and murder.
Additional District Judge Anil Kumar issued the order as the CBI had not enclosed any evidence in its 34-page closure report filed last year, counsel of the victims, Kokab Hasan Naqvi said.
The court had given the family members of the victims time till today to file objections, if any.
The victims' counsel said a protest petition could not be filed as CBI had not enclosed evidences with its report.
CBI had on December 11 filed a closure report in the incident that took place in May last year.
The closure report was filed before the Additional District Judge by the probing agency.
The incident, which was highlighted to be a case of gangrape and murder, was eventually concluded as a case of double suicide by CBI after its probe.
CBI recently said that questioning of over 200 people, along with the results of 40 scientific reports, led it to the conclusion that the cousins had committed suicide.
The investigation agency had said that reports from forensic laboratories and a three-member medical board, and its probe had revealed that allegations levelled against the five accused in the FIR were false and wrong people were arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police.
The girls were found hanging from a mango tree near their village on May 28. Based on their autopsy, it was initially believed that they were sexually assaulted and hanged.
The girls' families had alleged that they were kidnapped and murdered by five youths from the village.
Badaun had hit the headlines last year in wake of the incident which triggered a country-wide outrage.
