Former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi has shot off a letter to Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) president Arun Jaitley protesting about the inclusion of rookie pacer Navdeep Saini in the senior squad for the Ranji Trophy match against Vidarbha starting tomorrow.
A letter signed by Bedi on the NCT (National Capital Territory) Cricket Association letterhead, of which the legendary left-arm spinner is the president, was sent to Jaitley seeking his intervention.
The letter quotes Bedi stating, "..... Similarly in today's meeting to finalize the Ranji team, an outsider, Navdeep, a fast bowler from Karnal has been selected. This boy has played no cricket in Delhi for the past year and it is inappropriate to bring in an outsider when there are some very good boys waiting to represent Delhi.
"I wonder if you can even do it. If a few years back, a whole selection panel could have been summarily dismissed for selecting another Navdeep (Tomar), we see no reason why current committee can't be dismissed for overstepping their brief," the letter further quoted.
However it is not known whether Bedi has seen Navdeep Saini during net sessions as team sources said that his bowling had impressed skipper Gautam Gambhir which led to his inclusion in the squad in place of Pawan Suyal.
