"Unlocking land from closed units is not easy due to legal hurdles involving different agencies. But it is neither impossible as government had done in case of Hind Motors and Bata though those were resold to the same buyer," a member of the group of ministers on closed units said at the state secretariat after a meeting.
As a trial, a unit in North 24 parganas having some 150 acres would be tried to salvage the unused land for use of industry, he said.
The TMC government once again had engaged PwC to study closed units in the state despite the agency had carried out same study during the Left regime.
According to PwC report, there are 441 closed units that engaged more than 500 employees. Of which some 300 closed units hold 48000 acres, officials said.
"As per PwC report, there are some 23 units which can be revived where hurdles and complexities are comparatively low," they said.
