Bengal yet to accept Centre's new Agriculture Export Policy

The West Bengal government is yet to accept the Centre's new Agriculture Export Policy, an official of the state said Wednesday.

The Agriculture Export Policy, 2018 seeks to double farm exports to 60 billion by 2022 from $30 billion last year, and will invest Rs 1,400 crore to set up specialised clusters in various states for different produces to push exports.

"The new Agriculture Export Policy is yet to be accepted by the state government," Agriculture Marketing Joint Secretary AK Das said, while addressing members of the Merchants' Chamber of Commerce.

He said 17 Krishak Bazaars have been integrated with the online national platform eNAM portal. The market fee has been exempted for perishable products such as fruits and vegetables and semi-perishables such as onion and potato, he said.

West Bengal has 130 Sufal Bangla markets where produce is bought from farmers are aggregated for large corporates to source their requirement.
