BJP's Tamil Nadu unit president Pon Radhakrishnan today welcomed the police action and the arrest of three suspects in the 2011 Advani bomb and other cases by Special Investigation Division of Tamil Nadu Police.
"From the statements made by the arrested persons (media reports) we get to know that even if the arrest was delayed by a day, disastrous incidents could have happened," Radhakrishnan said in a statement.
He also said Tamil Nadu government should award double promotion to police officials involved in the operation and provide adequate security to these personnel and members of their family.
The BJP leader also said it was important to note the arrested persons' alleged plans to target his party's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
Asked if there was any conspiracy against Modi, scheduled to visit Chennai on October 18, a senior police official today said "We are investigating the cases and we will give appropriate details once the investigation is over."
Panna Ismail and Bilal Malik, two key suspects in the 'Advani pipe bomb case' and many other cases, were apprehended on October 5 after armed police personnel of both Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh surrounded a house at Puttur, close to the AP border with Tamil Nadu, and forced them to come out by using tear gas.
Another key accused, 'Police' Fakruddin was arrested on October 4.
Apart from the pipe bomb case, the arrested were also believed to be involved in the recent murders of BJP and Sangh parivar unit leaders in Tamil Nadu.
The fourth suspect Abu Backer Siddique is still at large.
