BJP today gave a 24-hour ultimatum to Punjab government to arrest those responsible for an attack on party leader Anil Joshi's brother.
In a core committee meeting, which was chaired by Punjab BJP President Kamal Sharma, the party leaders expressed grave concern on the rising law and order problem in the state.
The committee condemned the "murderous" attack on Raja Joshi, the younger brother of Cabinet Minister Joshi, and some BJP workers at Tarn Taran on February 10.
"We have given a 24-hour ultimatum to the state government to act on what we have decided," BJP's National General Secretary Tarun Chugh said.
He said the committee has demanded registration of an FIR under section 307 of IPC against those responsible for the attack and that they be arrested within 24 hours.
BJP also demanded that Tarn Taran SSP Manmohan Sharma be transfered and SHO Nirmal Singh dismissed.
"We have apprised Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of our demands," he said.
Joshi had charged the local Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) members with being behind the attack on his younger brother.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has already constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), comprising IG Border Range Ishwar Chander and Amritsar Commissioner of Police Jatinder Singh Aulakh, to probe the incident.
