Sales of bread have recovered after the potassium bromate crisis and has again reached the level of 10-12 lakh packets per day in the National Capital, All India Bread Manufacturers Association (AIBMA) said today.
Sales of bread had declined by about 10 per cent after the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in its report alleged that bread contains carcinogenic chemicals like potassium bromate and potassium iodate.
"The bread sales had come down by 10 per cent after CSE created panic in the market. But now it is recovering after the bread manufacturers voluntarily announced that they would not use potassium bromate as additive," Harvest Gold MD and AIBMA Executive Council Member Adil Hussain said at an event here.
"The bread sales have been recovering and again touched the level of 10-12 lakh packets sold per day of different size and variants," Hussain added.
He also ensured that bread players are committed to producing quality and safe product.
