The Vijay Nagar police today arrested a man for allegedly killing his brother-in-law, who was the manager of a petrol pump, and looting money from the gas station.
An amount of Rs 6.20 lakh in cash had also been recovered from his possession, the police said.
The incident took place on September 11.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Anoop Singh said after going through CCTV footage and call details of the victim, the police nabbed Umesh Kumar Sharma, a resident of East Defense Colony in the Bhopura area, from a place near the Kashi Ram residential area at the Hindan river barrage.
Sharma is the husband of deceased Sonu Sharma's (35) sister, he added.
The accused told the police that he, along with the victim, had hatched a plan to loot money from the petrol pump.
On the fateful day, greed got the better of the accused, who shot at the victim twice and fled after looting Rs 6.20 lakh from the petrol pump, the officer said.
The accused had dumped the body of the victim in the forest at the Karhera village in the Sahibabad area, he added.
At around 12.30 pm on September 11, the victim, a resident of Rahul Vihar Colony under the Vijay Nagar police station, had left the petrol pump with Rs 17 lakh to deposit the amount in the bank, but thereafter, remained untraceable.
His body was found today, the police said.
