BSF asks Rajnath to sanction jetty near Kori creek in Kutch

Border Security Force (BSF) today requested Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to grant permission to build a jetty near Kori creek in Kutch district of Gujarat.
Singh, who arrived in Kutch this evening to review BSF's preparedness in this area which shares border with Pakistan, later assured that India would make no compromise on security in Sir Creek area.
Singh was given a brief presentation on BSF's coastal security set-up in the creek area. Though BSF is a land force, in Kutch district it also provides security in creek areas along the border with Pakistan and patrols parts of the sea.

Officer Commandant of BSF C S Toshavara said during the briefing that deployment of BSF's water crafts depends on tides. They have to be anchored at a jetty at Jakhau, 120 km from Kori creek, if the weather is bad.
There is no safer place in the monsoon and during cyclones, so a jetty is needed in Kori creek area so that BSF could launch its boats quickly in any weather, he said.
A mooring centre, to be named after BSF DIG Satish Chandra Yadav who died in a chopper crash in 2001, was also proposed.

Singh will visit the Sir Creek area tomorrow.

"I have come to Gujarat to inspect coastal as well as border security," Singh later told reporters.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, had written to the then PM Manmohan Singh objecting to government's proposal of giving up Sir Creek to Pakistan," he said.
"I want to ensure the country that our government will not compromise on security," Singh said.
The two countries are locked in a dispute over Sir Creek.
