Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala today said the disproportionate assets case against IAS officer and Public Works Department Secretary T O Sooraj was initiated on the basis of evidence.
Chennithala told reporters here that the case was not based on any rumours or anonymous letters.
He said if corruption charges were proved strict action would be taken notwithstanding that the person was an IAS or IPS officer.
"Vigilance department has been given full freedom to go ahead with their job and its work is to deal with corruption, The Vigilance department is carrying out their job impartially and as per law," he added.
The case against Sooraj was a clear indication that government would initiate action whosoever they may be and whatever top position they occupied, he said.
Meanwhile, Vigilance department officials said the deparment has recommended action against Sooraj.
Vigilance officials had seized cash and documents during raids at his residence and offices in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram recently in connection with a case of allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to known sources of income.
