"We have installed eight CCTV (cameras) at Madhopur inter-state barrier which will allow the police to keep an eye on all the vehicles coming from Jammu and Kashmir," Pathankot SSP Rakesh Kaushal said.
It will help the police thwart any attempt by anti-social elements to enter Punjab through the national highway, he said.
Earlier, no CCTV cameras was installed at the Madhopur check post, which becomes very sensitive from the security point of view as J&K is affected by terrorist activities, police said.
They said efforts were being made to secure sensitive areas in Pathankot with the installation of CCTV cameras.
"We have plans to add 1,500 more CCTV cameras in the city in the coming 2-3 months," the SSP said, adding at present, over 700 CCTV cameras had been installed at several points.
