More than 1,500 ethnic Chakmas from Matiranga in Khagracharri district of neighbouring Bangladesh today fled to the Indo-Bangla border following a clash with the locals.
A clash took place at 11.30 AM following which the people were sheltered near the Indo-Bangla border barbed fire fencing at Karbook in South Tripura district, BSF DIG B S Rawat said.
Rawat said the Chakmas were not allowed to enter into Indian side but were provided with food, drinking water and shelter on humane grounds.
The members, belonging to the ethnic community, will be persuaded to return to Khagracharri tomorrow, the DIG added.
