Punjab Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Charanjit Singh Channi today met the family of the 10-year-old Dalit girl who was run over by a private bus near Makhu on Amritsar-Zira highway on December 17.
Channi met the family of Gurpreet Kaur, daughter of Palwinder Singh of Diyalpura village in Tarn Taran, at Circuit House and assured the family of support from his party.
On December 17, Gurpreet was mowed down by a bus run by a transport company which allegedly belongs to an Akali leader.
The CLP leader also said that Punjab and Haryana High Court should take the suo moto notice of the recent accidents in Punjab allegedly by the "buses of Akali leaders".
"These buses are crushing the children of poor people in a routine manner," Channi alleged as he cited the deaths of two girls who were hit by buses owned by the Akali leader.

Channi also met Gurjant Singh Janta whose limbs were chopped off by henchmen of a liquor baron in Abohar along with one Bhim Sain who died in the incident.
Channi assured Janta's family of all the possible help from Congress during his visit to the hospital in Amritsar where Janta is currently recuperating.
He said Congress will not sit idle till the cases are registered against the owners of the farmhouse who were "responsible" for this "heinous" crime in which a man was brutally murdered while another is fighting for his life.
He said if the state government failed to book the culprits by Monday, safai karamchaaris (sanitary workers) from across the state will hold strike as a mark of protest.
"With tears in his eyes Gurjant narrated tale of horror. The moment Gurjant along with Bhim reached in the farmhouse a group of 25 people locked them inside the farmhouse and brutally attacked them," Channi said.
