Satish Chaudhary, declared a proclaimed offender in three cases registered with the economic offences wing (EOW), was arrested on a tip-off near Sadaura in Haryana on September 18, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (crime Branch).
Several complaints were filed against Chaudhury and his associates between 2008 and 2009. It was alleged that the accused, through forged papers of industrial plots and factories, claimed to be actual purchasers of said properties through Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT) auctions.
He would assemble a team that was always different from previous one and arrange buyers for the property. The buyers were also taken to actual sites and thus convinced of the genuineness of the deal.
The complainants allegedly paid crores of rupees to Chaudhury but later found that the papers were forged.
Chaudhary deliberately did not own any property himself but invested in the names of his family and closed associates so as to prevent proclamation of the same. His son had even contested Assembly elections, said the officer.
