CJM celebrates 150 years

Curtain rung on Sesquicentennial
celebrations of Convent of Jesus Mary School which concluded here this evening with colourful dance drama depicting 150 years of the academic institution.
Himachal governor Urmilla Singh who was chief guest at the closing function and Guest of honour Chief minister Virbhadra Singh lauded the contribution of the school in promoting girls education and said that it was one of the oldest school in the state capital along with Bishop Cotton and Auckland House School.
Speaking on the occasion, Urmilla Singh said that the CJM has realised the dream seen by its founder Claudine Thevenet as the school had prospered in and it emerged as one of the pioneer educational institute in the country.
She said that the state government had taken many initiatives in the field of education and it was a matter of pride that Himachal today stands second to Kerala in terms of literacy.
Stressing on education of girls, she said that "only those societies prospers where the girl education was given due importance" adding that she was happy to learn that the school was also known for its cleanliness and greenery.
Describing the sesquicentennial celebrations of the school as a historic moment, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said that this was a proud moment for the school which was one of the very few schools to have completed 150 years.
"Shimla is blessed with best educational institution of the times which have achieved many milestones of quality education to boys and the girls and I am proud that I am here on this occasion, when the school after many ups and down initially, stands established as a premier institute providing qualitative education to girl child", he added.
Appreciating the cultural performance, he said that the dance drama staged on the occasion was very meaningful and with a godly message.
