Replying to a debate on budget in the assembly, Dikshit said power cuts even in the range of 20 minutes to one hour become "big issue" when people in neighbouring states are facing outages upto 10 hours.

Dikshit said the Bawana power plant has not been able to produce 750 MW due to unavailability of gas.

"When gas is supplied, we will be able to produce 750 MW which will ease the situation," said Dikshit.

The plant, which is considered as one of the major gas based power plant in the country, has been facing severe shortage of fuel for last eight months.

The Centre had asked Reliance Industries Ltd to supply gas to the plant from KG-D6 fields in Andhra offshore. However, the company is not supplying the gas saying the gas production at its oil fields has come down severely.

About the power tariff, Dikshit said the charges are "cheapest" in Delhi comparing to the neighbouring states.

"In Haryana, people pay Rs 15 per unit to buy power from private producers..The tariff in Delhi is cheapest comparing to neighbouring states," she said.
