Complaint against Cong MLA: Cops say no action needed

In a status report filed in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Devender Kumar Jangala, the police said, "In pursuance of the order of this court, Deputy Director (Commercial land), DDA, was requested to depute an officer to inspect the site and to demarcate the land being used by M/s Karan and Company and to report whether any encroachment on government land has been there..

"The report has been received from DDA and it has been informed that the land of existing petrol pump has been inspected. ...No government land has been encroached upon by Kanwar Karan Singh as the measurement of land match the record available in the file."

"In the light of these facts, no action is called for on the part of the local police," the status report said.

The court has now fixed the case for October 15 for further hearing.

The report was filed on RTI activist Vivek Garg's complaint, as per which the MLA was running a petrol pump in North West Delhi on an encroached piece of government land worth Rs 50 crore and has evaded water and house taxes worth crores of rupees, due to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

Garg later said the police status report on his complaint is silent on the tax evasion by the MLA.

Garg's counsel Jairam had earlier told the court that the massive land encroached by the MLA is being put to "illegal use as the same falls in green belt area and a petrol pump or a part of it cannot be operated in green belt." (More)
