Security situation in J&K gone from bad to worse: Congress

The party expressed grave concern over the sudden rise in militancy-related incidents in the state

The Congress today expressed concern over the "worsening security situation" in Jammu and Kashmir, and said that the situation has gone from "bad to worse" after the BJP-led NDA government took charge at the Centre.

The leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sahba Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed grave concern on the "worsening security situation", including the "sudden rise" in the militancy- related incidents in the state.

He said that broad daylight attacks are once again being carried out in the state and it seems the state was back to nineties as far as militancy and violence is concerned.

"What is more frightening is the joining of militant ranks by local youth in hordes after the BJP-led government came to power at the Centre," said Azad.

Questioning the policies of BJP-led Central government, Azad said that people are deeply worried about the increase in violence and terror acts in the state and there is a pressing need to take immediate steps to arrest the worrisome slide in security scenario.

"Our leaders and workers have been in the forefront to deepen and strengthen the democratic forces in the state, and this arbitrary and sudden move has made them 'sitting ducks' in the worsened security scenario", said Azad, adding that he will soon take up the matter with Chief Minister J&K and Home Minister.
