Cong slams Modi for harping on OROP, ignoring poll promises

Congress today accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ignoring BJP's poll promises and harping only on the One Rank, One Pension (OROP) scheme and also slammed him for saying that the issue involving the demand by ex-servicemen was a "vexed" one.
"Unfortunately, he (Modi) did not touch upon even a single of these issues. Rather, he chose to further compound the problem, confuse the entire issue by creating another flutter by saying that OROP is a very complex issue," senior Congress leader Ajay Maken told reporters here.
He was responding to Prime Minister's Mann Ki Baat radio address today during the latter said that he has directed various departments in the government to look for solutions to the OROP issue.

"Isn't it surprising after one year (of NDA government in office) that one of your important earlier demands, OROP, which was implemented by the UPA government with Rs 500 crore set aside for Vote on Account in February, 2014, you tell the country that it is the complexities of which you never knew earlier," added Maken.
The Congress leader said that the public expected the Prime Minister would address the question of fulfilment of BJP's poll promises in his radio talk as his government has just completed its first year in office.
Claiming that the Modi government had failed to deliver on various fronts, Maken said the Prime Minister did not answer questions raised by the opposition as to what the NDA dispensation had achieved during the last one year.

"Is not something which the nation should be told; that you have failed in the last one year to deliver upon even a single pre-poll promise," said Maken, adding that the NDA government stands exposed in this regard.
He also wondered whether the Prime Minister's mention of "complexities" also applied to other issues such as bringing black money back to the country, and ensuring the rate of the dollar came down against the rupee, etc.
