The CPI, the second major partner of the ruling Left Democratic Front, today strongly opposed LDF having any truck with Kerala Congress(M), headed by former Minister K M Mani.
"It will be difficult for us to work with Mani in the LDF," CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran said, inaugurating the party's Kottayam district conference in nearby Karukachal.
He said CPI was in favour of bringing back those parties which had recently left the LDF.
However, the party cannot agree with any move to make Kerala Congress(M) as an alliance partner, he said.
"LDF should stand for the people of Kerala. The existence of the front is based on many programmes, including its fight against corruption. There is no need to bring the corrupt in its fold," Rajendran said.
His statement comes amid reports that CPI(M) may support the idea of joining hands with KC(M) before the Lok Sabha polls next year.
KC(M) had quit the UDF in August last year after blaming a section of the Congress leadership for the rout in the assembly elections held in May 2016.
The former Finance Minister-led KC(M) had been at loggerheads with the Congress over the bar bribery scam and was warming up to the LDF camp.
KC(M) has not aligned with any front after severing its ties with UDF.
