In a sign of tensions subsiding along the Line of Control, a foot-crossing point has been reopened much to the relief of residents of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, according to a media report today.
Civilians living on both sides of the LoC hailed the reopening of the Nauseri-Tithwal crossing point, one of five such designated spots along the LoC.
The crossing point was closed after tensions escalated along the ceasefire line.
At least four persons have used the route since it reopened to return to their families living on the other side of the LoC, The Express Tribune reported.
Security officials and civilians from both Kashmir and PoK were present for the reopening of the crossing point in Neelum Valley.
The crossing points were opened a few months after the April 2005 launch of the Muzaffarabad-Srinagar bus service.
The bus service and foot crossing points were considered a major confidence-building measure.
The LoC recently witnesses firing by troops from both sides after an attack by Pakistani forces killed five Indian soldiers on August 6. Both sides accused each other of violating a 2003 truce on the LoC.
