A large haul of suspected party drug Ketamine is understood to have been seized by customs officials at the cargo terminal of the Delhi airport, official sources said today.
The consignment, declared as vanilla essence, was to be exported to Kenya, they said.
Sources at the export cargo said preliminary detection has confirmed presence of narcotics in the consignment in large commercial quantity.
When contacted, Commissioner (Export) Sunil Kumar Sinha told PTI, "Preliminary test is positive (indicates presence of narcotics). But the sample has been sent to Central Revenue Control Laboratory for further confirmation."
He said anything can be said with certainty only after a report from the laboratory is received.
Sources, however, said the consignment contains party drug Ketamine.
They said searches were being conducted on the premises of the company that has booked the consignment.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the customs has decided to rope in the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for further probe in the matter.
