The Cuttack Commissionerate police have now decided to reopen investigations into several unsolved old cases, which were closed earlier due to various reasons.
The city police today decided to reopen the sensational 2005 missing case of Baidhar Sahu, a liquor trader of Gandarpur area of the city.
Although a kidnapping case was registered in this connection at local Chauliaganj police station, the case could not reach its logical end and the police had closed it abruptly failing to get any clue.
"We have now decided to reopen this case after getting appropriate court directions", city DCP Sanjiv Arora said ruling out any direct involvement of arrested mafia Dhalasamant brothers in it as of now.
But other police sources informed that the missing Baidhar had business rivalry with D-brothers' associate Bharat Swain, who was arrested last month.
Sources further added that the city police are also examining many other old unsolved criminal cases and if need arises, the appropriate courts would be approached to reopen investigations in some of these cases as part of the city police's recent drive against organised crimes.
