At least ten Dalits were beaten up at Ansurda village in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra allegedly by a group of people belonging to upper caste.
The incident took place yesterday.
Osmanabad district superintendent of police Abhishek Trimukhe told PTI over phone that 16 people were arrested and a case had been registered at Bebli police station.
Dalits in the village refused to vote for a particular panel in the local panchayat election which apparently led to the attack, police said.
One of the injured persons, who was in a serious condition, is being treated at a government hospital in Osmanabad.
