West Bengal Police today unearthed a racket that supplies meat of dead cow to hotels and restaurants in Kolkata, a police officer said.
The incident surfaced after the recent controversy of sale of dead chicken soaked in formalin rocked the state.
Two persons of a four-member gang were arrested from here in South 24 Parganas district for allegedly supplying meat of dead cow to restaurants and hotels in Kolkata, the officer of the state police said.
The two were captured by local people when the duo was trying to take out a dead cow from the area in a taxi this morning, he said adding that they were later arrested.
Two others involved in the racket are absconding.
Meanwhile, a senior official of the Budge Budge Municipality said though nobody has lodged any complaint in this regard, the municipality would initiate an investigation.
