Expressing concern over high mortality among pregnant women from financially weaker sections due to lack of medical facilities, actor and social activist Shabana Azmi today said the issue was not getting the attention it deserved.
"The number of pregnant women who died during this year is equal to the number of passengers killed in 400 aeroplane crashes, but no attention is being paid to the deaths of these women," Shabana said at the inaugural function of a private hospital here.
It was necessary to promote institutional child delivery to prevent such deaths, she added.
