A local court has directed Dasna jail authorities to reply by tomorrow on a petition filed by an undertrial, who has alleged that he was brutally beaten for not giving "extortion money" by deputy jailor, who also branded his name "on the prisoner's back with hot iron".
Additional District Judge passed the direction yesterday on the petition filed by Karan alias Chottu, who is facing murder charges.
However, jail authorities have rebuked Karan's allegations.
S P Singh, counsel for Karan, filed an application in the court yesterday seeking strict action against the deputy jailer of Dasna jail of Ghaziabad.
Karan has alleged in his application that the deputy jailor, Rajesh Kumar Pandey, had demanded Rs 60,000 from him.
"When Karan pleaded that he could not give such a big amount, Pandey threatened of dire consequence.
"On December 4, Pandey along with three persons started beating him up following which his leg and neck bone were fractured. It was no end of brutality for Karan.
"Pandey on December 5 came again to Karan and allegedly started beating him and wrote 'RKP' on his back with warm iron rod," Karan's lawyer claimed in his application.
Karan, a resident of Delhi, is lodged in the jail for the last two months and is facing trial in the murder case.
On the other hand, jail authorities have refuted Karan's allegations.
"Karan has a criminal background and has also served imprisonment in Tihar Jail in some cases. On December 4, we recovered surgical blade, which he brought to hurt someone, from his possession.
"Thereafter, we also informed the court about this incident. Jail authorities completely reject Karan's allegations," said Viresh Raj Sharma, Superintendent, Dasna jail.
