The company had reported a net loss of Rs 7.03 crore in the year-ago period.
In a BSE filing, DSML said the company's net profit rose as total income from operations increased to Rs 659.28 crore in the September quarter of the 2016-17 fiscal from Rs 614.38 crore in the year-ago period.
The company's expenses remained lower at Rs 565.24 crore as against Rs 614.38 crore earlier.
The company said two of its sugar plants have already commenced cane crushing operations for the 2016-17 season (October-September) and remaining three plants will start from November 15.
Its products include power, ethanol, chemicals, refined sugar and plantation white sugar.
