Three persons including two women from Delhi, allegedly duped a local doctor of Rs 5 lakhs after promising him to get a kidney transplant done for his ailing father, police said today.
Police Inspector D N Patil of Badlapur (E) Police station told PTI that victim Krishna Bhaskar Nimsakhare's 65-year-old father was suffering from renal failure.
As the doctor was hunting for a matching donor, he came in contact with the three accused from Delhi. The trio-- Khaif Khan, Karippa and Neha Mehra--who posed as employees of Max Hospital in Delhi told Krishna that they can help him in getting the transplantation done there for Rs 20 lakhs for which they demanded Rs 5 lakh in advance.
Later, stating that the transplantation cannot be done in Mumbai they took the patient to Delhi few months back and kept him there for some days only to be sent back for lack of donors in September this year.
As nothing materialised after that, the doctor grew suspicious and lodged a cheating complaint last evening.
The police have charged the trio under sections 420, and 406 rw 34 of the IPC. However, no arrests have been made in the case so far and a hunt has been launched for the trio.
According to the doctor, one of the accused, on continuous pursuance of the matter, had even issued a refund cheque of Rs 5 lakh but it had bounced.
