To celebrate the centenary of Haifa war, a group of former soldiers and civil society members today decided to collaborate with the Israeli state administration to commemorate martyrs.
"We congratulate Haifa municipality, its Deputy Mayor Hedva Almog, who have taken the decision to immortalise the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers to liberate the coastal city of Haifa in 1918," a statement from Forum for Integrated National Security said (FINS).
FINS said that they want the Haifa Municipality and Government of Israel and India to honour Major Dalpat Singh Shekhawat, by releasing a stamp and naming a street in a suitable prime location of Israel and India.
They demanded the Indian government to rename Teen Murti as Haifa Chowk in the great memory of 900 Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives for liberation of Haifa port city from Ottoman Empire in September 1918, as the three statues belongs to Jodhpur, Mysore and Hyderabad cavalries who participated in liberation war.
