Addressing a press conference here, Kumar said Singh had bagged a contract for construction of a canal at a cost of Rs 30 lakh in Chakradharpur division and Mandal has been demanding ten per cent commission in lieu of signing an agreement for issuing a work order in this regard.
Pleading non-availability of the amount owning to demonetisation, Singh said he could arrange only Rs one lakh, which was being handed over to Mandal when the ACB team conducted raid and arrested him after an FIR in this regard was registered on Thursday.
Kumar said the ACB team also conducted search in a flat in Ranchi owned by Mandal, a native of Pirpati of Bhagalpur in Bihar.
The ACB SP said Mandal was the 74th person arrested in the state this year.
