Blaming global warming for the Himalayan tragedy in which thousands are feared dead, a disaster management expert today said people living in areas like Uttarakhand should always remain prepare to face such disasters.
Angeli Qwatra also cautioned inhabitants of these areas against ignoring government warnings about such disasters while maintaining that development should be integrated with disaster and flood management.
"Due to Global Warming, earth is witnessing extreme temperature events this year. This (the Himalayan tragedy) disaster is a result of such extreme weather phenomena which are also called hydro meteorological disasters," said Qwatra, Disaster Management Expert and member of NDMA Task Force.
She said there were predictions about heavy rains but such huge cloudburst was not expected. People living in areas like Uttarakhand and Shrinagar should always be ready for such disasters and should not ignore warnings issued by the government. "Development should be integrated with disaster management and flood management for a better holistic plan."
She also informed that National Disaster Response Force (NDRC) is working to rescue people stuck at the disaster site.
