St Stephen's college, which has been at the centre of controversies in recent months, today passed a resolution saying few staff members were involved in negative representation of the institution in media and called upon them to respect the professional stature of the college.
"The Staff Council of St Stephen's College expresses its dismay and distress at the negative representation of the college in the media. The Council also takes note of the fact that some of its staff members, though few, are involved in this," the resolution passed by the Governing Body, the supreme decision making authority of the college.
"It further notes that these negative representations of the college have no factual basis. The Council regrets the climate of intimidation and unprofessionalism that is being sought to be introduced which is extremely harmful to the academic culture of the institution.
"The Council calls upon all its members to nurture and respect the professional space and stature of the institution," it added.
The college has been rocked by controversies like allegations of forced conversion of an administrative officer to Christianity, fake degree used for his appointment, banning of e-zine for not seeking permission on content and shielding a professor accused of sexual harassment of a research scholar in the recent months.
There have been constant demands for removal of college principal Valson Thampu for allegedly bringing bad name to the institution with his actions and decisions.
Rubbishing the allegations Thampu has maintained that these are conspiracies by "vested interests" and college is strong enough to withstand 1000 such "attacks".
