Police today filed an FIR against NCP MLA from Karjat Suresh Lad for allegedly slapping a Deputy Collector in Maharashtra's Raigad district.
"The FIR has been filed against Lad under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 363 (kidnapping), 332 (voluntary causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 323 (voluntary causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of the Indian Penal Code," a police officer from Karjat police station told PTI.
Deputy Collector (land acquisition) Abhay Kargutkar, in his complaint to police, has alleged that Lad caught him by the collar and beat him up, police said.
A video purportedly showing the MLA allegedly slapping Kargutkar had gone viral on social media, even as the legislator denied having assaulted the official.
Lad was caught on camera allegedly slapping Kargutkar, reportedly after a disagreement over compensation to farmers for land acquisition.
The incident took place last Thursday during a meeting called by Kargutkar to settle disputes about land acquisition for an oil pipeline.
NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik had told PTI that the MLA denied slapping the official.
Kargutkar also lodged a complaint recently with Palghar District Collector over the alleged assault by NCP MLA, claiming in a letter to the Collector, that he was assaulted by Lad.
