Five-day international workshop at Pattanam from November 23

An International workshop on Architectural features of ancient port cities will be held at Pattanam, the archaeological site in Ernakulam district from November 23.
The workshop is being jointly organised by Kerala Council for Historical Research (KCHR) in collaboration with British Museums, UK, a press release said.
The workshop is the third and last in the series of workshops being organised as part of the International research partnerships award of the British Academy (2010), jointly received by Prof P J Cherian, Director, KCHR and Dr Roberta Tomber, visiting scientist, British Museum, London,for the proposal "Indian Ocean Trade: the Archaeology of Technology'.
The earlier two workshops were on the ceramic assemblage and adornment items unearthed at Pattanam.
The workshop will discuss the architectural features of Pattanam in relation to other port cities in the Mediterranean, Red sea and Indian ocean littoral, the release said.
Specialists and senior scholars working on Architectural findings, techniques and conservation from within and outside India, including Prof David Blackman (Oxford University), Prof Luis Feduchi (UCJC University, Spain), will be presenting papers.
An ethno-archaeological survey would be held from November 16-21 which will document the traditional boat making and carpentry practises in the Pattanam region.
