A former Assam Congress Minister's disparaging purported comments against Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani kicked up a storm today, drawing strong condemnation from BJP which described his remarks as "shameful".
Nilamoni Sen Deka, former state Agriculture minister, reportedly made the remarks at a public meeting in Nalbari.
Reacting sharply to the remarks, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav said it was a "shameful assertion" by the Congress leader towards Irani.
"Is Congress management headed by a lady defending him? he tweeted.
Strongly condemning the remarks, Union Sports Minister and Assam unit BJP Chief Sarbananda Sonowal told reporters here that the party's state unit will soon file a defamation case against him.
