While two ASGs will be posted at the Supreme Court, the other two law officers will be posted to represent government in the northern and southern regions.
The Cabinet is likely to take up the matter of new law officers' posts tomorrow, sources said.
The government's legal team in the Supreme Court was strengthened recently following the induction of three new law officers.
The move comes against the backdrop of government facing a series of litigations in various courts, including the Supreme Court.
There are a total of 14 ASGs, some in Supreme Court and the rest in various High Courts.
The post of ASG in Chennai who looks after High Courts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala is vacant.
Similarly, the post of ASG in Lucknow who deals with the Allahabad High Court and its Lucknow Bench is also vacant.
