Four sentenced to life imprisonment for shooting man

Additional Sessions Judge Ramesh Singhal handed down life term to the four residents of Bhalsawa village in North West Delhi, holding them guilty of murdering a person with common intention. Those sentenced to life are Ravinder, Bunty, Mukesh and Rampy.

Public Prosecutor P K Verma had sought maximum punishment for them saying they had committed the murder in a preplanned manner.

The case of the prosecution was that on July 18, 2010, victim Bhim Singh's servant Rakesh, 21, was going to market for buying some groceries.

On his way, Bunty intercepted him and asked him to bring liquor for him as it was his birthday, it said.

When he refused to obey his orders, Bunty beat up Rakesh, who went back to Singh and narrated the incident to him, the police said.

Singh accompanied Rakesh and went to Bunty's house to lodge his protest after which the accused threatened him to teach him a lesson, it said.

The next day, when Singh was going to the village, Mukesh and Rampy apprehended him and Bunty shot him in his head with a country-made pistol, it said.

During the trial, the four accused had claimed innocence and said they were falsely implicated in the case.

Besides the life term, the court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on each of the four convicts.
