"Sequeira has been placed under suspension until appropriate disciplinary proceeding initiated against him are completed," state party President John Fernandes said.
Goa Congress spokesman Pratima Coutinho, while announcing the action, said Sequeira had been often involved in "anti-party" activities, including a bid to topple the party-led government, which helped BJP leader Manohar Parrikar to form a Government some years ago.
The move comes a day after Sequeira publicly demanded suspension of Fernandes, holding him responsible for the current state of affairs in the Opposition party, which received severe drubbing in the 2012 Assembly polls and also this year's Lok Sabha election in Goa.
