Gold prices rose over 1 per cent to Rs 26,857 per 10 grams in futures trade today as participants built up fresh positions, tracking a firm global trend.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in October moved up by Rs 269, or 1.01 per cent to Rs 26,857 per ten gram in business turnover of 10,678 lots.
In a similar fashion, the yellow metal for delivery in far-month December gained Rs 259, or 0.97 per cent to Rs 27,035 per ten gram in 557 lots.
Analysts attributed the rise in gold futures to a firm global trend where it rose from an eight-month low.
Meanwhile, gold gained 0.8 per cent to USD 1,225.13 an ounce in London. Prices had reached USD 1,208.40 yesterday, the lowest since January 2.
