Govt to crack whip on bizmen violating VAT Act provisions

In an effort to clamp down on businesses violating provisions of the VAT Act 2007 in Puducherry, the Commercial Taxes Department today announced a dedicated WhatsApp number and e-mail ID for consumers to register complaints.
The department has introduced a dedicated WhatsApp mobile number 7395898989 and e-mail id (complaints.Ctd@gmail.Com) to enable the public to lodge complaints and also share their suggestions.
If a dealer or merchant does not issue invoice or bill for purchase of goods, it can be brought to the notice of the department through the WhatsApp number or e-mail ID for action against the dealer, a release from the Commissioner of Commercial Taxes Department G Srinivas said here.

Consumers can also approach the department in cases where only estimate slips are issued or the bill or invoice is given on paper with no name and address of the seller and other mandatory details, including Tax Payer Identification Number or invoice number, the release said.
It added that the department would keep the identity of the complainants confidential.
