The Ministry of AYUSH today held talks with US-based National Cancer Institute(NIC) for cooperation in the use of traditional medicines in cancer cure.
Secretary AYUSH, Ajit M Sharan, along with other senior ministry officials met Dr Edward Trimble of the NIC and discussed work plan and modalities for co-operation in use of traditional medicine.
Cancer research was the primary focus of the talks.
"While we want plants with cancer curative properties to get a global acceptance. The United States is also interested in procuring scientific leads on our traditional medicines and thereafter establish the science behind their treatment power.
"Once the US approves these medicines you can imagine the global acceptance these treatments will get," Joint Director Anil Ganeriwal said.
India will shortlist its research studies on treatment of cancer using ayurveda and unani systems of medicine. These will be then shared with NIC by December.
