Haryana hikes financial aid for construction workers

The Haryana government today announced a hike in financial assistances provided to state's construction workers under various heads.
Those workers who cannot join work due to an accident or some serious illness will now be provided financial support at a rate of per day minimum wage for 30 days, an official release said.
The assistance will be given under the Medical Assistance to the Beneficiaries Scheme to those workers who are admitted to a government hospital for five days or more.
At present, Rs 215 and Rs 200 are payable as minimum wages to skilled and unskilled workers respectively.
Earlier, the financial assistance was Rs 200 for the first five days and Rs 20 for each remaining day, subject to a maximum of Rs 1000.
The government also decided to enhance the financial assistance provided to workers for the marriage of their two daughters under the 'Kanyadaan Scheme' from existing Rs 21,000 to Rs 31,000.
The financial aid provided to the dependents of a deceased was also increased from Rs 75,000 to Rs one lakh and in case the death is due to an accident during course of employment, they will be entitled to get Rs 1.5 lakh instead of the earlier amount of Rs 1.25 lakh.
A proposal to provide financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the dependents of an unregistered worker in case of his death due to accident during the course of employment was also approved by the government.
