HC asks hospital to treat woman suffering from renal ailments

The Delhi High Court today came to the rescue of a 29-year-old woman whose surgery for kidney ailments has not been done at a hospital here for the last seven months due to non-submission of Rs 55,000 as fees for the life saving operation.
"The respondents (Delhi government, Centre and G B Pant Hospital) are directed to ensure the treatment of the petitioner (Salma) the G B Pant Hospital is not stopped for lack of funds," Justice V K Jain said.
The court said its order be sent to the hospital authorities for compliance.
Salma, a resident of Nand Nagri here who hails from a poor family background, has been suffering from 70 to 80 per cent blockage of her main renal duct of the kidney and was advised to undergo the corrective surgery.

The surgery, which was scheduled on January 7, has not been conducted as she could not arrange for the operation charge, advocate R N Dubey, appearing Salma, said.
The woman has been undergoing treatment for the ailment since 2001, the lawyer said.
