The bench, after perusing the affidavit by the Deputy Secretary, Home Department, observed that if it takes three years to install CCTV Cameras in 251 police stations, then it would take 18 years to do so in all 1567 police stations in the state
It also directed the IG to file an affidavit explaining the facilities made available in the system for Storage and documentation of CCTV Coverage.
The petitioners had sought a direction to government to install CCTV's in all Police Stations in Tamil Nadu, enabling higher department officials to know about the 'atrocities' committed by their subordinates and alleged human rights violations.
